OCTOBER 2026 I BRAY & CO AND DARKSKY INTERNATIONAL SPEAK TO CREATIVE BRAVERY AT ADVERTISING WEEK 2026

Closing out the Tech Stage at AdWeek 2026, Bray & Co’s Executive Creative Director Peter Bray was joined by Darksky International’s CMO Sarah Martin in a spirited conversation regarding the essentiality of creative risk in battling light pollution. The discussion was moderated by Simone Oppenheimer Mandel, Co-Founder of NBZ.

In a programming slate overwhelmed with “to AI or not to AI”, the panel’s topic “Space Death Rays, Fried Chicken and Warning Signs: Creative Bravery in Action” certainly stood out on the docket. The trio dove into a series of head-turning tactics from Bray & Co used to provoke public attention to the cause; from launching The Dark Sky One, a fictional car built purposefully for night driving, at the Detroit Motor Show, to partnering with Star Trek, and building a global case to tackle blinding LED headlights on the road. The latter half included an exclusive sneak peak into what will surely be some much discussed initiatives to come, particularly in the vein of a strategic counter-campaign in response to an entity actively threatening Dark Sky’s mission. No spoilers here. More to come very soon.

When asked what made this particular conversation especially relevant to this year’s AdWeek lineup, Peter Bray responded with the following.

“Creative is the biggest lever left to create effectiveness. It's still misunderstood by most CEOs and CFOs, they think it's a nice to have, when in fact it's the pot of gold waiting to be found. Our job is to help CMOs demonstrate the argument for effective creative, and then execute.”

Bray’s quote is reflective of the narrative through line on stage.

Safe ideas carry the biggest risk: Playing it safe in a crowded media landscape guarantees irrelevance.

Embrace initial confusion: True innovation often triggers a "what the...?" reaction before it sparks meaningful understanding. This is a good thing. This is what breakthrough creative often looks like.

Swing for the fences: To drive actionable change, campaigns must aim for iconic disruption rather than fading into the background noise.

Creative bravery is what it takes to mobilize people to take action toward environmental preservation. To blend in is to be lost entirely. The panel delivered a compelling reminder to the industry: when purpose meets audacity on the agency end, advertising can still drive passionate responses and real life impact.
